India vs West Indies 2nd ODI: Shubman Gill Double Century Powers Historic 406-Run Chase

India produced a stunning batting performance in the second ODI against West Indies in Guwahati. Chasing a huge target of 406 runs, India reached the target in just 43.3 overs, losing only two wickets.

Captain Shubman Gill led the chase with a record-breaking double century, while Rohit Sharma also scored a brilliant hundred. India won the match by eight wickets and completed one of the biggest successful run chases in ODI cricket.

West Indies Post 405 Runs

After winning the toss at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati, India captain Shubman Gill decided to bowl first.

West Indies made full use of the conditions and put up a massive total of 405/7 in 50 overs.

The visitors also created history during their innings. It was the first time West Indies had scored more than 400 runs in an ODI.

Three West Indies batters scored centuries in the same innings.

John Campbell gave the team a strong start with 101 runs. Shai Hope then scored 104, while Amir Jangoo finished with an impressive 114.

Their centuries helped West Indies reach 405 runs and set India a target of 406.

For India, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Gurnoor Singh picked up two wickets each. Prasidh Krishna took one wicket.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill Put India in Control

India needed 406 runs for victory, but the huge target did not put the home team under pressure.

Openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill attacked from the start and produced a record partnership.

The pair added 255 runs from 158 balls, putting India firmly in control of the chase.

Rohit brought up his century from 73 balls. He eventually scored 101 runs from 75 balls before being dismissed.

Virat Kohli, who had scored a century in the first ODI, could not repeat that performance in this match. He scored 29 runs from 19 balls before losing his wicket.

Shubman Gill Creates History

The biggest moment of India’s chase came from captain Shubman Gill.

Gill became the fastest batter to score a double century in ODI cricket, reaching the 200-run mark in just 117 balls.

He continued batting until the end and finished unbeaten on a stunning 223 runs from 133 balls.

His innings included 26 fours and 8 sixes, giving him a strike rate of 167.67.

Gill’s incredible knock completely changed the game and took India close to the target.

Ruturaj Gaikwad remained with him during the later part of the chase and scored 31 runs from 37 balls.

India Complete Historic Chase

India reached 406/2 in 43.3 overs to win the second ODI by eight wickets.

Jaydhen Seales and Shamar Joseph were the only West Indies bowlers to take wickets.

The victory gave India another major record. It was the team’s first successful chase of a target above 400 runs in ODI cricket.

The 406-run chase also ranks as India’s second-highest successful run chase in ODI cricket.

West Indies Make Four Changes

West Indies made four changes to their playing XI for the second ODI.

India also handed a debut to Akeem Nabi, who replaced Nitish Kumar Reddy in the team.

India had already won the first ODI of the series by eight wickets. After another dominant performance in Guwahati, India now have strong momentum in the series.
